In Hip-Hop’s early years it was scrutinized as a genre by popular media, the government and the general public for being violent, obscene and destructive to the communities of America.

Coupled with the popular opinion that “the streets” have ways of taking kids out of their desks in the classroom and to the corners of their local neighborhoods, Hip-Hop’s educational value was deemed limited from the start.

At this point it would be easier to name the industries Jay-Z is not apart of than those he currently occupies. Today (April 2nd), mega mogul Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter launches Roc Nation Sports, a full-service sports management company.

The new sports rep agency will be partnered with established sports rep establishment, CAA Sports.

Always one to come out swinging, Jay-Z wasted no time in making his first signing a big one by snagging New York Yankees second baseman, Robinson Cano. In a press release, the man who built Roc Nation spoke on his motivation behind starting this new venture:
